Whiskey Blues

Susan went down to the liquor store
She wanted some whisky with cinnamon in it
Not the kind that slides silky down your throat
But the kind that burns til you can’t drink any
More
Burns til you cant feel any
More
When he disappeared she found there were things she couldn’t control
Like tryina please a man who don’t know who he wants
To be, or what a man even is
And since he left whisky warms hot as black flammable
coal
Hot as black flammable
coal
She found his empty drawers and the world turned to slow
motion. She walked like a dream to find
Her car was gone and the money under the stairs
Then salty tears, rose up, broke the dam and began to
overflow
Rose up and began to
overflow
There are some things in life that are hard to swallow whole
Like how to report a crime when you love the criminal
And you’re not sure, if he came back, you might even beg him for more
With whiskey’s help she can bury that way deep down
below
Bury that deep down
below
